Mrs. Fuller's Fifth Grade Friends

Procedures

Discipline

In my classroom we will follow Eight Expectations:

  1. We will value one another as unique and special individuals.
  2. We will not laugh at or make fun of another person’s mistakes nor use sarcasm or putdowns.
  3. We will use good manners saying “please”, “thank you”, and “excuse me,” and allow others to go first.
  4. We will cheer each other to success.
  5. We will help one another whenever possible.
  6. We will recognize every effort and applaud it.
  7. We will encourage each other to do our best.
  8. We will practice virtuous living using the life principles.

I believe that a student has the chance to correct their behavior. If they are breaking an expectation they will have 2 verbal warnings to correct their behavior. On the third they will have to sign the book. If they sign the book 3 times in one day they will lose their next day recess. If they continue to sign the book they will have to write a note home to be signed. If they sign the book a 5th time we will be contacting the students parents. If there continues to be problems that student will visit the office.

Students will also receive positive rewards for doing the right thing. They will be given a sticker book that will be collected every nine weeks. A prize will be rewarded for the student with the most stickers. The class is also rewarded for positive behavior.

>>

Grading

Graded work will go home when it is graded. Please look through the papers. If there is a grade of 59% or below please sign the paper and return it to the teacher. The student can redo the paper and turn it in to earn up to a 60. If the paper is not returned signed the student will miss part of their recess until it has been returned.

>>

Spelling

Spelling tests are every Thursday in weeks with five days or Friday on weeks with four days.  I do not
provide a spelling list for my students.  They are responsible to bring home
their books, or make a list of their own from the book.  They are also
permitted to use a graded and returned spelling assignment from which to
study.

>>

Snacks

I do not allow daily snacks in my classroom.  Special events and privileges
will be exceptions to this rule.  If a student would like to bring a treat for their birthday please contact Mrs. Fuller and that will be allowed at the end of the day.

>>

Accelerated Reader

Students will have a goal of 15 points for each nine weeks. There will be a reward at the end of the school year for students who reach their goals. This will be one of the students grades in reading.  Also an average of the AR test scores will be a grade in reading.  Students will only be able to test over books that are in their reading level.

>>

Reading Homework

Students should read nightly at home. The student should record the ammount of minutes read and the title of the book they read at the bottom of the agenda for that day. Parents are asked to please initial what your student has read for that day.  The student needs to have read 100 minutes by Friday. Students are allowed to read over the weekend if they had to miss a day out of the week.  The only other homework a student could have is work that was not finished in class that day.

>>

Make Up Work

If a student has missed a day of school they will have two days to make up their work. The day they return their work will be given to them. For example if they were absent on Monday then their work would be due on Thursday.
